Anomalies
An anomaly is anything that doesn’t follow Earth rules and isn’t organic. They are oftentimes area based and classified by danger, size, and type.
Classifications
Size
Focal | A singular event in an area smaller than 10 x 10 square meters |
Local | An event across an area larger than 10 square meters but smaller than 5 square kilometers |
Medium | An event across an area larger than 5 square kilometers but small than 10 square kilometers |
Massive | An event occurring over an area larger than 10 square kilometers |
Type
There are different types of anomalies that, though vague, can classify can event.
Reactive | an event in which materials interact with each other in a way they’re not supposed to |
Environmental | an event resembling weather that is anomalous (acid rain, gravity storm, etc) |
Material | an event that creates an anomalous material that doesn’t fit into known Earth materials |
Optical | an event where something visually doesn’t make sense (real life optical illusion) |
Conservative | an event in which matter is spontaneously created or destroyed |
Danger
Anomalies are classified by danger using an alphabetical categorization. Danger is determined using multiple factors including size of the vent as well as survivability.
Class A | Highly dangerous and unpredictable. Oftentimes undocumented because no one survives it |
Class B | Highly dangerous and unstable. Usually covers a large surface area and has a high liklihood of death or irreparable damage |
Class C | Relatively dangerous and is best to be avoided. Can cause death or irreparable damge if ill-prepared and has continuous exposure |
Class D | Dangerous to unprepared parties. Can result in irreparable damage and possibly death if mishandled. Requires skill and expertise to navigate |
Class E | Can be dangerous without proper caution. Unlikely to cause death or irreparable damage but still requires caution |
Class F | Unlikely to cause death or irreparable damage but is still really weird and therefore requires caution |
Addendum I: Detroit Area Anomalies
Soul Pit | Generally a Class D reactive focal anomaly identified by a shimmering cluster of light. Anything that enters seems to melt and then disappear |
